Lets protect our elders!!

I don't know if many of you have noticed that aside from blogging only about entertainment news I have decided to make some changes and blog about things that I believe are worth bringing to your attention, things that actually affect you in someway or another.

Today my blog is dedicated to a recent article posted in the Orlando Sentinel that sheds some light on the future of nursing homes for the elderly. Apparently, the industry is beginning to have fewer regulations. Staffing requirements are being lowered which only allow for more dishonest and coldhearted people to take on these jobs. In fact, "the state is trying to muzzle the watchdogs who dare to speak up for the elderly."

Watchdogs who have brought to our attention cases of abuse and neglect that these poor people have to face in these homes such as the 75-year old priest with dementia who wandered off unsupervised and was found in a lake, his body ripped apart by alligators. I know this makes your stomach turn, but this is only one of the many cases out there.
What doesn't surprise me is that the article says that politicians are at fault for this. Under Rick Scott's leadership, Brian Lee the head of a successful watchdog program was expelled from his position because he would visit different nursery homes and report cases of filth and neglect that these seniors were enduring. Instead of letting him go, he should've kept him around to refine these programs and reduce these cases of abuse and neglect.

It's important for all of us to join forces and increase awareness!!! Lets improve the nursing home system and PROTECT OUR ELDERS!!!
